The group expands from India into East & Central Africa, beginning a presence that today spans more than 17 years across the region.
Metal Cans & Closures grows across seven countries — India, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia and Ethiopia — diversifying into plastic (IML), PP-woven bags and construction steel, and converting 12,000+ tonnes of tinplate a year for 900+ customers. ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 certified.
Metal Cans & Closures acquires the assets of Nampak Kenya — a packaging pioneer since 1947 — after the Competition Authority of Kenya approves the deal, forming Meraki Packaging Kenya Limited (MPK) and adding food cans, crown caps and shoe-polish containers.
Meraki launches its renewable-energy business — solar PV and battery storage across Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda under long-term power-purchase agreements — as group turnover passes USD 130 million.
From one family enterprise to three divisions — packaging, energy and steel — with a new frontier in telecommunications and data centres across Eastern Africa.
