Clean · firm · affordable energy

Powering Africa's industry with clean, firm, affordable energy.

Meraki Energy develops solar PV with battery storage, run-of-river hydropower and transmission infrastructure across East and Southern Africa — delivering reliable power to manufacturers, mines, data centres and utilities under long-term agreements.

About Meraki Energy

The green energy division of Meraki Group.

Meraki Energy originates, develops, finances and delivers renewable generation and grid infrastructure across East and Southern Africa.

Our business rests on three units that work together: generation from solar PV + battery storage, generation from run-of-river hydropower, and transmission that connects new supply to the people and industries who need it.

We focus where reliable power matters most — energy-intensive industry, mining, digital infrastructure and national utilities. Every project is structured around long-term PPAs or PPPs, so customers get predictable prices and partners get bankable returns.

Our mission: to close Africa's energy gap with clean power that is firm enough for industry and affordable enough for growth.

What we do

Three units, one integrated energy business.

From generation to the grid that carries it — we build the plant and the line, so customers are never left waiting for power.

Solar PV and battery storage plant
Business Unit 1 · Solar PV + Battery Storage

Clean daytime energy, made firm around the clock.

We develop utility-scale and captive solar PV plants paired with battery energy storage systems (BESS). Storage shifts solar output into the evening peak, smooths ramps and keeps critical loads running through grid outages.

  • Ground-mounted and rooftop solar for industrial sites, mines and data centres
  • Utility-scale solar + BESS plants selling to national utilities under long-term PPAs
  • Hybrid systems that cut diesel use at off-grid and weak-grid sites
  • Grid services from storage: peak shaving, frequency response and backup power
Why it matters: Solar is among the lowest-cost new power in the region, and storage turns it into dispatchable supply that heavy industry can plan around.
Run-of-river hydropower plant
Business Unit 2 · Run-of-River Hydropower

Renewable baseload from the region's rivers, with a light footprint.

Our run-of-river projects divert part of a river's flow through turbines and return it downstream. There is no large reservoir, so land take, resettlement and ecological impact stay low while output stays steady day and night.

  • Small and mid-scale hydropower plants on perennial rivers
  • Baseload and mid-merit supply to utilities under long-term PPAs
  • Dedicated supply to industrial and mining customers near the river corridor
  • Community benefit programmes: local hiring, access roads and rural electrification
Why it matters: Hydro complements solar. Together they give customers a renewable mix that holds up across the day and through the seasons.
High-voltage transmission infrastructure
Business Unit 3 · Transmission Infrastructure (PPP)

Building the grid that carries new power to market.

New generation is only as useful as the lines that carry it. Meraki develops, finances, builds and operates high-voltage transmission lines and substations under public-private partnership frameworks with governments and national utilities.

  • High-voltage lines and substations under build-operate-transfer and similar PPP models
  • Evacuation lines that connect new renewable plants to the national grid
  • Grid reinforcement that relieves congestion and cuts technical losses
  • Links that support regional power trade through the Eastern and Southern African power pools
Why it matters: Private capital through PPPs speeds up grid expansion without loading public balance sheets, while the asset returns to the state at the end of the concession.
